Girls Just Wanna Weekend 2019 – Day of Service & Ecological Experience

Join Positive Legacy at Xcacel with Flora, Fauna y Cultura for a day filled with ecological conservation and community action! The beautiful beach Xcacel is a sea turtle sanctuary and educational center aimed at the protection, research and conservation of sea turtles nesting on the coasts of Quintana Roo. Sea turtles demonstrate the ultimate lesson of ecology: that everything is connected. Sea turtles are part of two vital ecosystems, beaches and marine systems. If sea turtles become extinct, both the marine and beach ecosystems will be impacted.

We are excited to team up with Flora, Fauna y Cultura for our third day of service this event season! Their mission is to improve the quality of life in the region by promoting the ecological value and conservation of the natural and cultural heritage of Mexico. Their projects throughout the local community and green areas nurture their vision of a world in which natural and cultural heritage are valued, respected, shared by and used for the benefit of all. Their program for sea turtle conservations covers 13 nesting beaches, covering 120 km, making it the largest program of its kind in the country.

During our day of service we will work to revitalize the ecosystem by removing invasive species, installing signs for the turtle nesting areas and do a major beach clean up! Beaches all over the world face the issue of plastics and trash piling up, and together we can support a cleaner, healthier environment! After completing the mornings projects, we will relax to music from local musicians while we eat a delicious homemade Mexican lunch. Then, we have free time for the rest of the afternoon! Enjoy swimming in the beautiful Caribbean sea and soaking up the sun before heading back to the resort to enjoy an evening of music!
