Join Positive Legacy in the Dominican Republic with Ecoservices, for a day of recycling education and ecological conservation! Together we will learn about the impact that plastics have on our environment and why it is so vital to create educational programs that support communities in creating sustainable recycling options where they live.
We are very excited to be working with Ecoservices; a local organization that supports La Fundación Ecoturismo Responsable (the Foundation of Responsible Ecotourism) and was set up to provide a connection between local communities, waste management and tourism. The commitment of the members is to encourage renewable energy projects and proper waste management through reduction, reuse and the integral recycling of waste.
They have been creating innovative ways to collect plastics like the ‘Big Bottle Cage’ that holds 1200-1500 plastic bottles. Once filled up, items are weighed and data is collected to measure carbon footprint of the bottles. Positive Legacy will be funding the installation of a Bottle Cage in a local community and will create an educational workshop to support the community in successfully implementing and sustaining the program.
During our Day of Service, we will spend the morning picking up trash and plastics from a river bank that leads towards the ocean. Then we will journey to take a swim in a local waterfall! After completing the mornings projects, we will relax to the rhythms provided by local musicians while eating a delicious Dominican lunch; and maybe pick up some local dance moves!
You must be an Avett Brothers at the Beach official event ticketed guest in order to attend this activity.
