Positive Legacy Day of Service & Sustainable Experience during Wilco's Sky Blue Sky

Join Positive Legacy at Xcacel Beach for a day of ecological conservation and service!
During Wilco’s Sky Blue Sky you have the opportunity to leave the resort for a day of service and ecological conservation at the Xcacel Beach Turtle Sanctuary. Located just 20 minutes away, our shuttle will take everyone to this beautiful beach focused on the preservation of nesting grounds for sea turtles in the Caribbean. Xcacel is one of the only remaining undeveloped beaches on the Yucatan Peninsula where turtles come to nest every year.
In July 2019, Positive Legacy was able to provide a $20,000 grant to the Sanctuary through donations from Cloud 9 Adventures’ 2018/2019 events. This grant is being used for a housing project that would expand the existing park office to house volunteers throughout the hatching season. During this season, Xcacel volunteers assess the health of the mothers, collect data on tags and size, date and protect the nests throughout the night. Nests typically take two months to hatch and when they do, the volunteers help transfer the baby sea turtles from the nest closer to the ocean.
In addition to the volunteer housing, Positive Legacy's grant will remodel the existing restrooms in conjunction with replacing the plumbing infrastructure to the septic system which will adequately treat the waste generated at the park throughout the year.
We return to the park in 2020 for another year of Day of Service activities. Our projects include removing invasive plants, laying the groundwork for the new Welcome Center and cleaning up the beach, to name a few.
After completing the morning projects, we’ll celebrate at the beach with music, an authentic Mexican lunch and free time to swim in the Caribbean ocean!
On January 20th, we will meet at the Positive Legacy Headquarters in the Hacienda Lobby at the Hard Rock Hotel at 9am and return to the Hard Rock by 3p. Your ticket cost includes roundtrip transportation to Xcacel Beach, all Day of Service activities, lunch, and music production costs.
