Join Positive Legacy at the Colegio De Bachilleres for a day filled with planting, painting, and community interaction! Just 15 minutes inland from the beach The Colegio De Bachilleres is the largest high school in residential Puerto Morelos and currently serves 271 students. The school was built on an old rock quarry where the previous owners had removed most of the vegetation and replaced it with rock, making it difficult for the school to create outdoor green spaces and recreational areas for the students.

With the help of Dr. Alfredo Barrera Marin from the Botanical Gardens and a grant of $8000 from Positive Legacy, we will reforest and landscape the barren school grounds with native plants and fruit trees. These freshly planted areas will weave through interpretive nature trails leading to newly constructed areas that will serve as green spaces for agriculture and nature programs as well as providing inspirational outdoor learning and recreation areas. The school will also be protected by a living hedge which will act as the perimeter walls. Through this project we will be helping to set the ecological blueprint which this school will use as it grows into the future.

The dedicated teachers and administrators have been helping to improve the quality of life in the region for many years by providing education for the community of Puerto Morelos with an emphasis on ecological awareness and conservation of their natural and cultural heritage. Creating comfortable natural areas for students has been shown to fulfill a motivational and functional role which can also produce a better attitude towards learning therefore facilitating the teaching-learning process and will help to significantly improve the quality of life enjoyed by the students while at school.

Guests will spend the morning working together with the locals and students on different landscaping, educational, and mural painting projects. After the mornings projects, we will indulge in authentic Mexican food and relax to the eclectic sounds of The Treefunkers, a local Puerto Morelos band, who will be accompanied by “special guests” from Strings and Sol. During lunch we will take some time to enjoy the ambience and admire all the work we completed, chat with new friends and enjoy some music before heading back to the resort to partake in another beautiful evening at Strings & Sol.
